Planning: 1950's cover initial ideas

Makeup + hair

For the makeup and hair I knew that I definitely wanted the model to wear red lipstick from the off. However I did not know much about the fashion and makeup of this time so I decided to research some of the classic looks.

I went on to look at makeup looks that were typical of this era and every model I found had the same makeup this was thick winged eyeliner and red lipstick. It is pretty simplistic and easy to recreate.

I found that most of the hairstyles consisted of tight styled curled with large embellishments in the hair so I will ensure to find an accessory for the hair

My Pitch

 I have chosen to create two real life story front covers for a magazine

1st idea:

My first idea for a real life story front cover was a 1950's theme. The storyline is "the women who lives everyday like its the 1950's. Initially I thought of this idea due to living near a diner which I have always thought was very aesthetically pleasing. I thought this would be a perfect setting for the pictures as the diner perfectly encapsulates the 1950's. However one problem with this would be that it may be difficult to get pictures in there and I would most likely have to speak to the staff before hand. If I am unable to get fulfilling photos from the diner I will use other setting most likely the beach or a simply plain background. The reason why I chose this idea was because I wanted to dive deep into my creative side and explore different costumes and makeup in order to bring a different era alive again. 

These are two potential diners very near to me which would be easily accessible. 

In order to pull of the 1950's aesthetic I have given a lot of thought into how I will produce the front cover. I have chosen my friend Maisie to appear as the star of the front cover as she naturally sprung to mind and has the right look for the piece. As well as this she has resources which will be useful for example her mum owns vintage shop with a collection of dresses ad other props which can be used for the cover.

Planning: LGBTQ+ Front Cover makeup moodboard

 

I want to show my support for the LGBTQ+ community and so I thought doing a front cover on it would be a good idea. For this front cover I want to do some special makeup o really make the cover stand out from the rest.

Production: Photoshoots

Photoshoot 

Most of these pictures were taken using a professional set up. During this shoot I found out just how important it is to set up good lighting for photos. I much prefer the photos which I took using the set up rather than the ones in natural lighting as I found the natural lighting was too dark. I also learnt that it is very important to plan out your photoshoots before going through with them, as I had an image originally of what I wanted to achieve from the shoot and I was able to test out a lot more because of this pre existing vision

I decided to experiment with accessories in this image and I used an editing app to create a neon effect I wanted to test out the aesthetic of it. This intertextualises the show euphoria which is well known within my demographic

This photo was

taken with a professional set up. I love the direct mode of address. I used an editing app to highlight specific features like the eyes and jewellery to make them stand out more. I found using the professional set up in school to be very helpful, because the photos turned out much better since I had high quality equipment to use. One thing I would improve about this photo is that I would prefer if there was more colour.
